Early Bird hotel and Gathering rates have been extended to Sept 18!

The St. Andrew-Caledonian Society of Calgary, in conjunction with the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society—Calgary Branch, is presenting a Scottish cultural weekend in Canmore, 7-10 October 2016. Enthusiasts from all parts of the world are welcome to come to this area of the Canadian Rockies for a Scottish cultural experience with a course schedule to suit many interests.

Canmore is located on the eastern edge of the Canadian Rockies and is 90 minutes from the International Airport (YYC) and is connected by a shuttle bus http://airportshuttleexpress.com/canmore.htm#banff.
Canmore has a population of 14,000 and the town focuses on the Main Street which has numerous restaurants, gift and décor stores, and adventure opportunities, all surrounded by towering peaks. Full details on Canmore can be found at

Registration will take place in the lobby of the host hotel on Friday, 7 October, in the afternoon and evening, as well as Saturday, 8 October, and Sunday, 9 October, mornings.

         The Society has organized special functions where all registrants can come together to re-engage with past acquaintances, discuss the day’s events, make plans for coming events and participate in Scottish cultural activity.

The basic registration fee is $150 and includes:

  • A buffet dinner on Saturday, 8 October, featuring regional specialties followed by the Scots Ceilidh with live music, wonderful entertainment, and Scottish Country dancing. Groups or individuals interested in presenting at the ceilidh will receive special presentations and should complete the Ceilidh section of the Registration Form or, if registering online, note this in the “notes to seller box” when paying with PayPal.
  • A formal, traditional turkey dinner served with all the trimmings on Sunday, 9 October, followed by the Gathering Ball to live music.
  • A Farewell Lunch on Monday, 10 October, to complete the weekend and allow groups to announce their upcoming events.

Participants will be on their own for Friday dinner.  There is a restaurant in the host hotel as well as 102 eating establishments covering a wide range of tastes in and around Canmore. Breakfasts for all three days as well as lunch on Saturday and Sunday are also at the discretion of each registrant.
